The Lane Cove Public School Council was established in 1992 following the acceptance of a constitution, a copy of which is available from the school office or at the school library.

The School Council is the school’s peak decision-making body. It consists of the Principal, P & C President (or nominee), four elected staff representatives, four elected parent representatives and up to two invited community members.

The Council’s role includes:

  • Developing policies and strategies to both enhance students’ abilities and talents and to cater for the varied needs of students.
  • Developing the Annual School Report & School Management Plan
  • Reviewing curriculum and welfare issues
  • Facilitating opportunities for staff development
  • Promoting the school generally
  • Approval of the school budget
  • Selecting representatives for interview panels which select new school executive staff when a vacancy occurs

In carrying out its role the Council has facilitated the development of a Strategic Plan for the school which is reviewed and updated annually by staff and parents. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the annual planning evening and through involvement in relevant planning and implementation groups.

Elections for parent and staff representatives are held in Term 4 of each year and representatives are elected for a two year term which is staggered to provide continuity.

Parent representatives report back to the P. & C. and seek parent views and contributions in relation to School Council’s operations. Parent representatives are glad to discuss Council activities.

School Council information comes home in School News regularly.
