The Environment Group

The LCPS Environment Group was formed in 2007 by a group of parents
interested in Environmental initiatives.
Its three guiding principles are:

We will work to reduce the school’s impact on the natural
environment.

We will work to enhance the physical and botanical school
environment.

We will work to educate the school community about sustainable
living and care for the
environment.
In 2008 a Student Environment Club was formed and in 2009 a
Teachers’ Environment Focus Group was created.
In 2008, projects included:
-
Refurbishment
and landscaping of the school’s Frog Pond area.

Canteen composting for use on the vegetable garden.
-
Possum proofing the
vegetable garden area.
In
2009, current and future initiatives include:
- No Waste
Wednesday
- Introduction
of Recycling bins and education program

Crushed terracotta gravel added around raised
garden beds
-
Creation of outdoor learning area for
students
- Recycling
using compost and worm farms
- Vegetable
gardens – seasonal planting
- Kindergarten
“Surprise Garden” program
- New garden
beds to be developed in the area behind Kamilaroi

Requests made to the P & C for specific projects.

Donations of material and labour.
